The reality
Slots, roulette, baccarat and most table games have a fixed house edge that no strategy removes. Blackjack and full-pay video poker can get close to break-even with perfect play, not above it on normal online tables. Poker against other players is the one casino-site game where skill can produce a long-term profit, and only for a small minority.
Where skill helps
- Poker against players: hand selection, position, reading opponents.
- Blackjack: basic strategy cuts the edge to about 0.5%.
- Video poker: correct holds on a 9/6 Jacks or Better machine return 99.54%.
- Bonuses: only low-wagering offers can have positive value, and casinos limit them.
Bankroll management
- Keep a separate bankroll you can afford to lose entirely.
- Stake 1% to 2% of it per bet or hand.
- Set a stop-loss per session and per month.
- Record every session: stakes, results, time.
Emotional control
Tilt, playing worse after a loss, costs more than any rule mistake. Stop after a set number of losing sessions in a row, and never raise stakes to recover losses.
Bonuses
A bonus has positive value only when bonus × wagering × house edge is less than the bonus. At 96% RTP that means wagering under 25x. Casinos restrict accounts that only take bonuses. See bonuses for experienced players.
